At Spicy Mango, our story begins in the rural villages of Sri Lanka’s South-East coast. We grew up in some of our island’s most fertile lands, and our culinary beginnings consisted of home grown grains, hand plucked fruits, free range meats, and some of the freshest vegetables money can buy.

Fast forward a decade, and we found ourselves moving to the big city. Colombo was a melting pot of cultures like we had never experienced before, and nowhere was our country’s diverse and multi ethnic history more apparent, than in what we saw on our plates.

The spices of the early Europeans, the middle eastern dishes of the first Arab traders, and even Asian staples introduced by wandering Eastern merchants, all blended over centuries into truly Sri Lankan dishes, enjoyed in households all over the city.

These newly acquired tastes quickly merged with the traditional village cooking we had loved growing up, and developed in to a palate which encompasses what Sri Lankan home cooked food is all about – fresh, flavorful, and the perfect mix of traditional and eclectic.

We have been fortunate to experience all aspects of truly “Sri Lankan” cuisine, and we now have one overarching wish – to bring delicious, every day, home cooked, truly Sri Lankan food to your table.
